Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has been established for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Registration under FSSAI has been classified under three categories :

In case of export-oriented units, Import Export code issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade

License validity stretches out from 1 to 5 years.
Application for the renewal of the license be made 30 days before it’s expiry.
In case of delay in application then liable for late fee of Rs. 100 per day.
Non-compliance of regulations may lead to imprisonment or fine up to Rs. 5 lakh or both
In case of business operation stretching over multiple states then :
Central FSSAI license for the main branch or head office and
State licenses for specific states be obtained.

FSSAI create awareness about food safety with FBO and will be coordinating training with the help of accredited with agencies / universitie
FSSAI investigate any claims that have been brought to it by the general public or any other concerned party. In addition to the FSSAI, other organizations that investigate the claims are the State Food Authorities. It involves investigations, testing, reports and the resulting outcome.
Penalty for such default may extend up to Rs. 10 Lakh
FSSAI improvement notice is issued in the name of particular FBO where Non-Compliance with the regulations of Food Safety and Standards Act is observed by a Designated Officer.
In case of the death of the FSSAI license holder, the FSSAI license can be transferred in the name of legal representative or any family member.
